Jonathan Bree is a New Zealand singer and producer, known both for his solo work and for his band The Brunettes, which he formed in 1998. His melodic, orchestral compositions explore themes of modern life and love with a pop musical palette bordering on fairy tale and darkness. In 2002, he founded the Lil' Chief Records label, which he still runs today. Together with label member Princess Chelsea, he created the iconic single The Cigarette Duet.

Jonathan Bree's anonymous persona also accompanies the listener during concerts, where the musician and his masked band play in front of special cinematic projections created for each song, and the live show formula is complemented by choreography performed by two dancers.
